The demand for new energy vehicles will continue to grow in the next decade

 Date:2024-04-24

The Paris-based International Energy Agency (IEA) released an outlook report on April 23 saying that global demand for new energy vehicles will continue to grow strongly in the next decade. The surge in demand for new energy vehicles will profoundly reshape the global automotive landscape.

The report, titled Global Electric Vehicle Outlook 2024, predicts that global NEV sales will reach 17 million units in 2024, accounting for more than one-fifth of total global vehicle sales. The surge in demand for new energy vehicles will significantly reduce the consumption of fossil energy in the field of road transportation, and at the same time profoundly change the pattern of the global automotive industry. According to the report, China's new energy vehicle sales will increase to about 10 million units in 2024, accounting for about 45% of China's domestic car sales. In the United States and Europe, new energy vehicles are expected to account for about one-ninth and one-quarter of sales, respectively.

Fatih ·Birol, Director General of the International Energy Agency, said at the press conference that the global new energy vehicle revolution has not weakened, but is entering a new stage of growth.

According to the report, global sales of new energy vehicles soared 35% last year to a record of nearly 14 million units. On this basis, the new energy vehicle industry still achieved strong growth this year. The demand for new energy vehicles in emerging markets such as Viet Nam and Thailand is also accelerating.

According to the report, China continues to lead in the manufacture and sales of new energy vehicles. More than 60 percent of new energy vehicles sold in China last year were more cost-effective than traditional vehicles with comparable performance.
